Collab/Rate — Collaboration Network for Creatives

Collab/Rate aims to aid fellow designers in need of guidance on where they can improve their work while giving them a platform to showcase their work and get feedback. What better way to get advice from people who are in that line of work or are studying to be in that field. The concept was devised after vigorous amounts of user research and surveys were sent out to several design groups within Facebook. From the qualitative data received from the research, the findings found that designers would like a place with a sense of community where they can be peer reviewed and to be inspired.

Project Description

The background behind the project is that we identified a community of people who are looking for a place where they can collaborate on different projects and then have a place to showcase their work for potential employers or projects. They are also looking for a place where they can communicate with other industry professionals. They desire an implemented system, where their work can be commented on and rated for learning purposes and to develop their skills from those findings. T While also having the ability to have a search engine that allows them to filter through projects and people who are in the community. The benefits the user obtain when using our application is a sense of community, a platform to showcase their work and be rated by peers. It will tailored to their needs and will give them a place to network between others in the community and collaborate by providing feedback on each project submitted by others in that field. The competitors that have been identified are the likes of Pinterest, Dribble, Instagram, Behance, Twitter and Facebook. These different social networks have been identified, because they are social networks just like ours but they are either too impersonal where they are purely for searching for jobs.   Or they are too personal where there is too much on the screen and not enough content about the projects that people are working on. We have also identified that none of the above allow for collaboration and feedback. We strive to ease that burden and make it easier on the user to get inspired by other users work and comment on others work.

Project Findings

Heuristic testing was used as the method of evaluating the collaborative social web application based developed on the heuristics chosen for the research study. The heuristic evaluation of the web application suggests that the users on average thought the design were implemented reasonably successfully but some areas could be expanded on and reassessed . User-testing the web application also proved to provide valuable feedback on how the application could be better implemented and further explored with further development.
