E-Shift — Work Roster Application
This application will make business much more efficient at making and designing rosters. It also provides the user with a more interactive and immersive design feel. The application makes it easier for managers and staff to interact with each other and create a more structured environment for creating a roster.
The Easy Shift website application was designed using a Bootstrap framework on the front-end. On top of this framework a User Interface development kit is used which modifies the ‘default’ styling in which bootstrap permits. The design offers a crisp, simplistic layout where the manager and employee can easily access the work schedule at ease. The design follows a pattern of colours and text styling throughout the pages and keeps with calm colours to make the interaction with the web page more immersive. On the Back-End of the project uses a database system to allow both the manager and staff to login to separate accounts and see the corresponding work schedule. It allows the user to add shifts to the calendar API and also the manager to create, view, update and delete employees details at will when needed. The database system tracks the Id of both the manager and employee as the login and as they drag and drop shifts into the calendar.
We found that users were very happy with how Easy Shift turned out. People thought the idea was original and very unique. It provides users with a real time updated roster as opposed to screen shots of Excel sheets that the majority of people working in small businesses received their weekly or monthly hours on. The idea of further updating the project to include extra features like swapping shifts, viewing gross pay and submitting holidays was also very well received. We believe Easy Shift once upgraded with these features really does have a place in the market.
