An Investigation of Virtual reality, Immersion and Memory Recall
The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of virtual reality on memory recall using the HTC vive. This study discusses various memory models in conjunction with other schema's such as imagery, attention and flow.
This study was an Investigation of Virtual reality, Immersion and Memory Recall. The virtual scene was designed by the researcher Salmon (2018). In total 70 participants partook in this experiment. Participant’s immersion, flow, positive and negative affect scores were measured. There was a significant difference in memory recall for the HTC vive group which suggests that being totally immersed has an effect on memory. It is also interesting to note that participants whom had high flow and positive effect scores had higher memory recall from either group. Negative affect scores had an opposite effect on memory recall participants scored lower.
Results of this study suggested a significant difference in recall scores between the desktop group and the HTC vive group. The results also indicate a relationship between memory recall and immersion, positive and negative (GEQ) scores.
